One of London’s largest low cost home ownership providers, Tower Homes, has chosen Demelza, a charity providing hospice care for children, as its charity of the year.
Staff at Tower Homes were asked to vote for their favourite charity to become a focus for all their fundraising activities during the year. The overwhelming winner was Demelza, which provides hospice support, care and a wide range of services to over 450 life-limited children across Kent, East Sussex and South London.
Tower Homes, located in Court Road, was keen to support a local charity so that staff could see for themselves the day-to-day impact their fundraising efforts would have on the children Demelza support.
At present Demelza has one hospice in Sittingbourne and one, currently under construction, in Eltham, just up the road from Tower Homes, which is expected to open by December 2008.
Steve Nunn, Managing Director at Tower Homes, said: “Demelza is a fantastic charity that has clearly struck a chord with our employees. As it is local to Tower Homes, staff will not only be able to raise the funds but actually see first-hand, how their support will impact directly on the children receiving essential specialist care from the charity.
“We are proud to be able to support Demelza in providing a service that gives vital accomodation and care to children that really need it.”
Ted Gladdish, Chief Executive of Demelza, said: “Support from companies like Tower Homes is vital to us, as we rely almost entirely on fundraising to care for our children and families. There is an overwhelming need for the new hospice in South London and we are delighted that the staff at Tower Homes have taken our charity to their hearts and will be working with us in a fantastic year of fundraising. Thank you to everyone at Tower Homes for choosing Demelza and helping us to add life to days when days cannot be added to life.”
Tower Homes is planning a wide range of fundraising events over the next 12 months to raise as much money as possible – money raised will go direct to Demelza and their mission to assist the estimated 780 children that are affected by life threatening conditions in south London.
Fundraising events already in the pipeline are monthly dress down days, charity football matches and even a parachute jump. A team of Tower staff are also planning to do The Three Peaks challenge. This entails climbing the UK’s highest peaks Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon back to back.
All staff will be encouraged to get involved with fundraising activities, with Tower Homes completing quarterly updates to map their fundraising progress.
